The Story Behind The MIIM

Ivy Yi Fang

Founder, The MIIM Consulting
Executive Coach | Strategic Transformation Advisor

Understanding People. Bridging Perspectives. Transforming Leadership.

I have always been fascinated by a fundamental question: Why do intelligent, capable people think and make decisions differently—and what enables them to become better leaders?

That curiosity has shaped my education, professional journey, and ultimately, the founding of The MIIM Consulting.

In 2007, I came to the United States to pursue graduate studies, driven by intellectual curiosity, a desire to broaden my perspectives, and the ambition to explore opportunities beyond the world I had known.

What began as an academic journey evolved into a lifelong exploration of human behavior, organizational dynamics, cultural differences, and leadership.

My career has taken me across psychology, organizational consulting, the American judicial system, entrepreneurship, and the entertainment industry. While these experiences may seem unrelated, they share a common thread: understanding people, their decisions, and the systems that influence them.

Over time, I came to believe that the quality of leadership begins with the quality of thinking behind it.

Today, I bring this interdisciplinary and cross-cultural perspective to helping founders and CEOs navigate growth, complexity, and transformation.

My Background

Where Psychology Meets Strategy and Global Perspectives

My academic journey reflects a longstanding interest in understanding people, organizations, and the forces shaping their decisions.

I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, a Graduate Certificate in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, a Master of Science in Industrial and Labor Relations, and a Master of Public Administration.

Each discipline has contributed a different dimension to my perspective. Psychology introduced me to human cognition and behavior. Organizational psychology deepened my understanding of leadership, motivation, and performance. Labor relations explored the dynamics of organizations, conflict, and workplace systems. Public administration broadened my understanding of governance, institutions, and complex decision-making.

Together, they form the intellectual foundation of my work:

Strategy × Psychology × Leadership × Transformation

A Career Across Cultures, Institutions, and Industries

For more than a decade, I worked as a Mandarin legal interpreter within the U.S. judicial system, participating in over 1,000 legal proceedings.

Working at the intersection of language, culture, law, and human conflict offered a distinctive perspective on judgment, communication, power dynamics, and decisions made under pressure.

My work in Business and People Strategy consulting and entrepreneurship brought these observations into the business world, where I became increasingly interested in how leadership behavior, strategic choices, and organizational systems shape business performance.

My experiences in the entertainment industry added another dimension to my understanding of creativity, ambition, personal identity, and the challenges of navigating competitive environments.

Across these different worlds, I developed an appreciation for both the human and structural dimensions of complex problems.

The Story Behind The MIIM Consulting

A New Generation. A Global Mindset. A Different Way to Lead.

The MIIM stands for The Millennial Immigration.

When I arrived in the United States in 2007, I became part of a generation whose identities, opportunities, and ambitions were increasingly shaped by globalization.

Living, studying, and working across cultures gave me a firsthand understanding of how different experiences, values, and institutions influence the way people think, communicate, and lead.

As a millennial, I observed how globalization, technology, and cultural exchange were shaping new expectations around work, leadership, opportunity, and success.

I also recognized a growing gap between traditional leadership models and the perspectives of emerging generations.

Where established leadership approaches often emphasize hierarchy, authority, and conventional structures, newer generations increasingly value autonomy, collaboration, adaptability, and global perspectives.

I believe the future of leadership is not about replacing one generation's wisdom with another's ideas. It is about bridging perspectives—combining experience with innovation, established principles with emerging values, and strategic discipline with open-mindedness.

That belief became the foundation of The MIIM.

The MIIM represents my commitment to empowering emerging entrepreneurs while helping established founders and CEOs evolve their leadership approaches to meet the demands of a changing world.

Why I Founded The MIIM Consulting

Better Thinking Creates Better Leaders. Better Leaders Build Better Businesses.

I founded The MIIM Consulting around a conviction: many of the most difficult business challenges cannot be separated from the people making the decisions.

A founder may build a successful company yet struggle to delegate as it grows. A CEO may develop a compelling strategy but find it difficult to align the executive team. An organization may reach a critical turning point where the thinking and leadership practices that once drove success are no longer sufficient.

These challenges require more than traditional business advice or leadership development in isolation.

They require understanding the connection between the leader and the organization.

That is the perspective behind The MIIM.

By integrating psychology-informed executive coaching with strategic advisory, I aim to help founders and CEOs identify blind spots, strengthen decision-making, navigate complexity, and evolve alongside their businesses.

I don't just want to help leaders solve today's problems. I want to help them develop the capacity to navigate tomorrow's challenges.

My Calling

Bridging Generations. Expanding Perspectives. Empowering Leaders.

Throughout my life, I have been drawn to understanding how people think, why they make certain decisions, and what enables them to change.

As an immigrant, entrepreneur, and lifelong student of human behavior, I have experienced how new environments and different perspectives can challenge deeply held assumptions and expand what we believe is possible.

I believe that meaningful transformation begins when we question our assumptions, recognize our blind spots, and discover new ways of seeing the challenges before us.

My calling is to help emerging entrepreneurs develop the clarity, confidence, and strategic thinking to build meaningful businesses—and to help established founders and CEOs embrace new perspectives, adapt to changing values, and evolve alongside the next generation of leaders.

For me, this work is about more than business performance.

It is about helping capable people become more conscious thinkers, more effective decision-makers, and more intentional leaders.

I want to help leaders see beyond what they know today and become capable of what tomorrow demands.

My Vision for The MIIM Consulting

Shaping the Next Generation of Leadership

I envision The MIIM Consulting becoming a trusted boutique advisory firm that bridges generations, cultures, and disciplines to shape the future of leadership.

A firm where psychology meets strategy, where established experience meets emerging perspectives, and where founders and CEOs can engage in thoughtful, confidential, and intellectually rigorous conversations about their most consequential challenges.

My ambition is to build a practice that develops stronger leaders while helping organizations become more adaptable, resilient, and prepared for the future.

I believe that when leaders evolve, organizations become stronger. And when organizations become stronger, they create opportunities for people, businesses, and communities to thrive.

My goal is to empower a new generation of thoughtful, adaptable, globally minded leaders—and support established leaders who are ready to evolve with them.

That is the purpose behind MIIM.

Better Thinking. Stronger Leadership. Meaningful Transformation.

The future belongs to leaders willing to think differently.
